2024-2025 IrEOES/EOES
The Irish Olympiad of Experimental Science (IrEOES) is an individual science competition for Transition Year and Fifth Year students. The first round takes place online and is accessible to any eligible student who wants to take part. In 2024-2025, you were eligible if you live and go to school in Ireland, were in Transition Year or in Fifth Year, and were born on or after 1st January 2008.
Both Irish teams won a bronze medal at EOES2025 in Zagreb. They each did two challenging experimental tasks. The theme of task 1 was about the waters of Croatia. The students investigated freshwater macroinvertebrates, extracting salt from sea water, and determining the refractive index of sea water. Task 2 was organised around time and change and involved spectrophotometry, drag, and biological kinetics.
Team training
April 15th and 16th brought two fun days full of team tasks, bonding, and honing some experimental skills. Zagreb here we come!
