Biography

 

Aisling Twohill is a lecturer in Mathematics Education, in the School of STEM Education, Innovation and Global Studies. She is studying towards her PhD in the area of mathematics education, under the supervision of Dr. Thérèse Dooley.

Aisling completed her B.Ed and PG Dip Ed in St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra, and spent twelve years teaching in primary school, where she developed a keen interest in supporting teachers in facilitating children’s deep mathematical thinking.

Expertise

 

Aisling’s PhD research, and her current research interests, encompass the algebraic thinking of children attending primary school; patterning, and the role of shape patterning in children’s developing thinking; and assessment of children’s thinking through task-based interviews. Other interests include the complex interplay between theory and practice in teacher education, and interventions to support high achieving children.
