EUSO 2019_Teams

The Irish European Union Science Olympiad (IrEUSO), an individual, subject based (biology, chemistry or physics) science competition for students who are sixteen years of age or younger on the December 31st prior to the competition, was held annually in Dublin City University (DCU) between 2003 and 2019.

International Competition

All medal winners were be invited to participate in Practical Training in February/March 2018 and after a further assessment, the top six (6) students were selected to represent Ireland at the EUSO 2018 (28th April – 5th May) in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

European Competition

All medal winners were invited to participate in Practical Training in February/March 2019 and after a further assessment, the top six (6) students were selected to represent Ireland at the EUSO 2019 (4th – 11th May) in Almada, Portugal.


Success at EUSO 2019

The team of Thomas Connolly (Christian Brothers College, Cork), Oscar Despard (Sandford Park School, Dublin) and Oisín Ó Feinneadha (St. Peter’s College, Wexford) finished in third place overall and brought home Ireland’s second ever gold medal in the event, while the team of Hanna Kissane (Institute of Education, Dublin), Eilís O’Halloran (Mount Mercy College, Cork) and Tymoteusz Zielinski (Patrician Brothers Secondary School, Newbridge, Co. Kildare) won a silver medal.
