The Irish Junior Science Olympiad (IrJSO) is a science competition for students who are under sixteen on December 31st of the year of the competition. It is held annually in Dublin City University (DCU) in October. Finalists qualify through the Junior Certificate Examinations are identified by the State Examinations Commission (SEC). All participants receive a certificate. The top three students are awarded gold medals, the next three silver and the next three bronze. The gold & silver medal winners represent Ireland at the annual International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) in December. The bronze medal winners are on the reserve list.

Between 2005 and 2016, members of the Irish delegation have been awarded a total of 31 bronze and 4 silver medals.

Success at IJSO 2018

With over 40 countries participating, the standard of the competition was extremely high. The Irish delegation and all associated were delighted when two of the students Ruadhán Glynn and Finley Thomas were awarded bronze medals for Ireland. Following the competition, Bronze Medal Certificates were sent to the co-ordinator for the students; one of the mentors travelled to each school to present the certificates to the students.

Gold and Silver medal winners represented Ireland at the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) which took place in Doha, Qatar from the 3rd – 12th December 2019. Team Ireland was represented by:
