Abstract: The societal, technological and educational transformations is reshaping traditional pedagogical practices into student-centered learning and engaging environments caring also for learners’ wellbeing and future career initiatives. In this evolving landscape, learners are no longer passive recipients of information but active participants, co-creators, and collaborators, engaging to explore, construct, and communicate knowledge. At the same time, science educators face increasing demands to develop and apply pedagogical, content-specific competencies with real-life meaningfulness. Aligned with these developments, Finland’s national STEM strategy and implementation plan highlights high-quality, research-based teacher education as a cornerstone for advancing equitable and engaging STEM learning across formal, informal and non-formal education [1]. The strategy emphasises cross-disciplinary approaches integrated with science and mathematics to foster critical thinking, creativity, curiosity and motivation among learners. The LUMA Centre Finland, representing a collaborative network of 11 research universities, has the governmental mandate to beat as the heart of a national ecosystem for development, practices and assessment to answer the needs of STEM education now and in the future.
