Education for a Sustainable World International Project

Sustainability and Science Education Project for Primary School Teachers

The Education for a Sustainable World Project is aimed at supporting primary school teachers from Ireland, Germany, USA and Mexico to effectively teach about sustainability.

In January 2019, for the second year in a row, staff from DCU’s Institute of Education will roll out a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme that will support Irish teachers to teach about Sustainability through Science education. However, the content of the CPD programme will also link closely with other areas in the Irish Primary Curriculum.

Venue:  Institute of Education, DCU St. Patrick’s Campus

Dates: January – April 2019

STARTING: 16TH JANUARY 2019 (5-8PM)

(Other workshops to be confirmed to suit participants)

Some of the themes that will be covered in this year’s programme will include:

The Sustainable Development Goals

  • Life Cycle of Everyday Objects
  • Renewable Energy
  • Biodiversity
  • Water Conservation
  • Plastics
  • School Gardens
  • Using Story to teach about sustainability

Benefits include

  • Engagement in teacher professional development workshops
  • On-going support for participating teachers from the staff in the DCU Institute of Education
  • Provision and development of resources to facilitate the teaching of sustainability as part of the Irish Curriculum
  • Whole school professional development in Sustainability
  • On-going collaboration with teachers in other participating schools

Limited to 15 primary schools with 2 teachers from each school
