“Be Afraid and Do It Anyway” – Keynote speech on career journey following autism diagnosis by Dr Leah Ridgway for Engineers Week 2025

For Engineers Week 2025, Dr Leah Ridgway, CASTeL member and Assistant Professor in the School of Electronic Engineering gave a keynote speech “Be Afraid and Do It Anyway” reflecting on their career journey following being diagnosed with autism as an adult. The talk was a mixture of stories and advice on how to use uncertain times in the world as an opportunity to reflect on what’s important and make purposeful career choices; sometimes the best thing to do is really difficult, but if it’s important it’s worth doing anyway. The event was hosted by the Faculty of Engineering and Computing at DCU and included a panel discussion moderated by a current undergraduate with external industry guests.
